Do you personally know a young voter who has been sucked into Obamamania?

White-House backed legislation to grant legal status to millions of illegal aliens failed to get the 60 Senate votes needed to proceed to a final vote of passage late Thursday morning.

It fell 14 votes short, 46-53.

Many senators speculated that the controversial legislation may not be revisited until after the 2008 elections. Sen. Jim DeMint (R.-S.C.), a fierce opponent of the bill, noted on the Senate floor that the sergeant-at-arm?s office had informed him that because so many constituents had called the Senate in the run-up to the cloture vote, their phone system had crashed that morning.

This represents the second time the bill has failed to get the needed votes. After negotiations on the bill broke down earlier this month and it failed to receive cloture on June 7, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) called it back up on Tuesday.

That day it received the needed 60 votes to reopen debate. 39 Democrats, 24 Republicans and one Independent supported reviving the bill. Twenty-five Republicans, 9 Democrats and one Independent voted against resurrecting it. The final tally was 64-35.

Immediately following that vote, work began to consider 27 amendments to the bill. By Wednesday evening, however, the Senate had only voted on six of those amendments. Because so few amendments were considered, opponents argued nothing substantial had been done to the bill to distinguish it from the one that failed to receive cloture on June 7.

Two of the most contentious amendments were sponsored by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R.-Tex) and Sen. Jim Webb (D.-Va.). Hutchinson’s proposal to require illegal aliens to return to their home countries before obtaining legal status, commonly called a “touch back” provision, was defeated 53-45. Webb’s amendment, which would have only granted legal status to immigrants who had lived in the United States four years, was defeated 79-18.

If you do a little research you will see that this is actually the 13thr 14th time that this bill has been up for consideration in on form or another. But it is the last three times when Bush wanted to get his SPP to help the NAU that it became the monster that it is. The first clue was when they went behind closed doors and tried to ram it through without us seeing it like they did with a lot of war issues. But do you honestly think they could in a matter of days come up with this reform that was over 800 pages long? No they couldn't, most of it was written and purposed prior to Jorge trying to get his SPP through which was a main component of the bill. Thank God were safe from the NWO for the moment. But we need to put our armor on cause the battle may be won but the war has just started.

Keep in mind that before the cloture vote to bring this bill back to the floor, an insider leaked that they had come up with a plan to help congressmen save face with their states. The plan was to get it back open for debate and then kill it with nays. They dont care about anyone as long as they can lie and save face. The only ones you can half way trust are any who voted no and opposed this bill all the way through. I live in New Mexico and both Dominichi and Bingaman vote yea, nay, yea, and then nay the last time to help kill this bill. What that shows is that the plan they came up with to try to help congressmen save face was put into action to fool people again so that the parties loyal base who would sell us out could do it in the future.

The only thing to do to help save this country is to vote all Senators that even voted yea once cause they didn't have the best interest of their states in mind. They will bring this back and get it through eventually if we don't take control back to the people through re-elections. What we need are people like Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter. We need people who are for less govnmernment and enforcing the laws we currently have. We need that in our states too for Senators and representatives.

Lets see what the President does now. I guarentt, unless we put pressure on him and congress and the house the fence will never get built and that they will not now try to enforce the laws that are in place and would help a lot. They will do nothing so that after the 08 elections they can bring this back up and say the same thing there saying now or were saying to try to get this passed. By then how many more will sneak across and stay here knowing that shortly the bill will pass. If they dont start to enforce the laws we have now and build this da%$ fence right away we'll be in dire straits.
