Why did Republicans lose in the 2008 elections?

Scotty McGee scored on a 69-yard punt return with 1 second remaining to lift top-ranked James Madison to a 38-31 win over No. 5 Richmond on Saturday.

McGee took Brian Radford's punt on the 31-yard line and ran down the Dukes' sideline for the game-winner.

James Madison (6-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) narrowly escaped becoming the third Football Championship Series No. 1 team to lose this season.

The Dukes tied the game at 31 with 59 seconds remaining on an 8-yard run by Eugene Holloman and Rodney Landers' conversion pass to Griff Yancey.

There were five lead changes in the game.

Richmond (4-3, 2-2) took a 31-23 lead on Josh Vaughan's second touchdown, a 3-yard run with 3:21 left. Ward and John Crone each ran for a touchdown.

The Dukes' Dave Stannard had field goals of 51, 23 and 40 yards, and Landers threw touchdown passes to Mike Caussin and Rockeed McCarter.

Landers was held to 62 yards on 16 carries, below his average of 122.5 yards per game. He completed 10 of 12 passes for 96 yards.

Holloman added 58 yards on 12 carries and Jamal Sullivan had 51 on eight carries as the Dukes outrushed the Spiders 226-124.

Ward completed 17 of 25 passes for 224 yards, five to Tre Gray for 97 yards.

Vaughan finished with 94 yards on 23 carries.
