Why did Republicans lose in the 2008 elections?

Gusty winds, rain and early season snow were forecast Thursday for parts of Washington, Oregon and Northern California as a strong storm system moves into the Northwest. Snow was expected only in the higher elevations in the southern Cascades.

Wet weather was also anticipated in the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains. Snow was likely in the Rockies.

Rain was also possible across the Southeast as a weak low pressure system sits off the Georgia coast. The heaviest precipitation was expected in the late morning in Georgia and South Carolina.

Clear skies were forecast for the nation's midsection.

A few showers were possible in the New England states.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 102 degrees at Santee, Calif.
