Tucker Carlson Pinpoints What Gretchen Whitmer, Greg Abbott Have in Common

@TuckerCarlson

Is the United States truly a democratic republic anymore? According to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, it’s increasingly looking like that’s not the case.

Rather than having a “government of the people, by the people, for the people,” as President Lincoln put it in his Gettysburg address, nowadays, the will of the people is being ignored.

“In the end, most governments are run by a small group of people for their own benefit without reference to what the majority wants, and I hate to believe that that’s true in this country, but all the evidence suggests that it is,” Carlson said during a speech in Utica, Michigan, on Sunday.

All one has to do is look at any poll of voters’ top concerns, he added. What the people identify as their main priorities are way out of line with what their elected representatives are doing.

“People are leaving Michigan because it’s very hard to make a living here and you’re constantly hassled by a government that never stops growing and that is leeching off an economy that hasn’t grown in decades, OK? That’s the truth,” Carlson said, telling the audience to look at what Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is focused on.

“Her priorities are what? Putting you in jail if you “misgender” somebody? What percentage of the state is on board with that as a top concern? It’s like roughly around a tenth of 1 percent, OK, in that range. The things that people care about Gretchen Whitmer couldn’t care less about,” Carlson continued, “because democracy isn’t functioning.”

He argued if democracy were functioning properly, there wouldn’t be a such a massive illegal immigration problem.

“How many Texans do you think are on board with letting 7 million people cross into their state illegally? What percentage? Zero, zero. … Nobody is for that, that’s insane. Has the governor of Texas done anything meaningful to stop it? No! The ‘Republican’ governor.”

Carlson argued GOP Gov. Greg Abbott could secure the border in "a week" if he used the National Guard.

“He refuses to do that. He won’t do it,” Carlson said. “And it’s not like no one suggested it. I’ve suggested to him three times, including in private at a cocktail party in Dallas last year. ‘What are you doing, man? Don’t you have a National Guard? Why don’t you seal the border?’”

According to Carlson, Abbott told him it's “complicated.”

“No, it’s not,” Carlson said. “If someone’s trying to break into my house, it’s not complicated to repel the person. Do you have a firearm or don’t you? Are you willing to defend your house and your children or aren’t you?”

What it is is "dishonest," he noted. "You’re lying to me. You don’t want to do it because your donors don’t want you to do it. It’s that simple. Greg Abbott. Liar. Liar. And worse than liar, betrayer of your own people. That’s what that is.”
