‘I’m a Maniac’: Cruz Channels Trump At Outset of Debate

Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly could not avoid mentioning “the elephant not in the room” at Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate. She asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) what kind of message he thinks the businessman’s absence is sending to the voters of Iowa.

After suggesting Trump is treating The Hawkeye State like “flyover country,” Cruz felt compelled to act as a proxy for Trump’s bombastic voice.

“Let me say, I’m a maniac,” he said. “And everyone on this stage is stupid, fat, and ugly. And Ben you’re a terrible surgeon.”

After getting that out of his system, Cruz and his fellow GOP contenders dug down into the substantive issues Iowans and the larger nation care about, including foreign terror.

Cruz took one more shot at Trump later in the evening, telling moderator Chris Wallace:

“If you guys ask one more mean question, I may have to leave the stage.”
