Who will Obama pick to be his VP?

A cold front sagging south across the Upper Midwest and another front intensifying over the Northern Plains were to combine to spark scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the Midwest early Monday, while the Southwest baked and the East could see storms.

A risk of severe thunderstorms was anticipated across parts of the Central Plains, Northern Plains, Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes, with the main threat being large hail, strong winds in addition to heavy rain.

In the East, unsettled weather was to continue across the Eastern states as a weak front remains off the coast. Expect showers and thunderstorms to increase in the afternoon and evening.

Elsewhere, heavy rain was expected to persist across southern Texas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms were likely over portions of the Gulf States, Southwest and Rockies.

Out West, high pressure will slowly strengthen Monday, bringing excessive heat to portions of the Southwest. This heat wave was expected to last for the majority of the work week. Many inland locations and valleys can expect temperatures in the afternoon climbing above the 100 degree mark.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of 37 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 116 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
